FAQs
What is the difference between standard and extended licence?
Standard License ⟶ For branding, print & web
You can use the font for:
- Logos & branding
- Print (books, posters,
packaging, etc.) - Websites (self-hosted webfonts)
- Social media & ads
- Client projects
You cannot use it for:
- Apps, games or software
- E-books or digital products
for sale - Products where the font is embedded and distributed
- TV, film or streaming
Extended ⟶ For apps, software & digital products
Includes everything in the Standard License, plus:
- Apps & games
- SaaS & software UI
- E-books
- Templates & digital products
- Streaming, film & broadcast
If the font is part of a product that is shipped, downloaded or sold → you need the Extended License.
But what’s about seats or traffic?
We just want to make it easy for you. We don’t count seats or traffic.
Do I have to pay for updates?
Nope. All future updates and expansions are included in the Family license.
Do my clients need a license?
Short answer ⟶ Sometimes — but only if they actually use the font.
My client does NOT need a license if:
- you design a one-off project (poster, ad, invitation, greeting card)
- the font is only used in delivered artwork
- the font files are not handed over
- the client does not install or reuse the font
My client DOES need a license if:
- the font becomes part of the corporate identity
- the client wants to install and use the font internally
- the font is shared with other agencies or partners
- the font is used long-term as part of a brand system
Who should buy the license?
- The party that uses and installs the font should be the license holder.
- In most branding projects, this is the client / brand, not the designer.
What’s the easiest solution?
Design first.
If the font becomes part of the brand → the client purchases their own license from Schfonts.
